This vanity dresser is just as lovely as any I have ever seen! More than that, everything about it shows that it was a high-dollar, top-of-the-line piece of furniture when it was new. Quality holds up. It is in perfect condition 70 or so years later.
The piece is mahogany with mahogany secondary woods! It has a handsome curved, beveled mirror. The drawers have tiny, beautiful dove tails. Each drawer has dust foils! And visually — well, just take a peek!

If most folks look at Stetson Pottery, they say ‘That looks like Blue Ridge, is it?’. Well, it is not, but maybe they just have a good eye! Back in the day, Stetson managed to lure a number of painters from Blue Ridge with promise of higher wages. They folks already had mastered that easily-identifiable Blue Ridge brush stroke. The shapes of Stetson were a little more imaginative, but the painting, well you would be right to say, ‘That looks like Blue Ridge!’

2. Lots more interesting! Not stuff from the marts, not cookie cutter stuff from some chain furniture store. Unique and often, one of a kind. Look in every magazine. What is hot is what is different, creative.
3. Speaking of creative: this stuff is IT! Mix Victorian, shabby, industrial, painted and natural. Make is say YOU not “Mahogany”, or “Traditional” or any other style that can be summed up in one word!
4. If you go looking for REAL, real wood, real construction, real value, you will come to In Due Time.
5.Surround yourself with the PAST — reconnect with your memories, what your gramma loved, those wall pockets my aunt so-and-so had.
6. Antiques are the ULTIMATE recycle effort. The today word is GREEN.

New Furniture at IN DUE TIME

We have received two new Borax ware bedroom sets at the shop. While ‘fine furniture’ was made of fancy veneers, this inexpensive furniture was of solid wood. Instead of ornate, hand carving, this less expensive alternative was ornamented with a curved design done by a tool like a router. Now that some of that pretty old veneer is popping up and chipping off, the solid borax ware from the depression era and soon thereafter, is still just what it was, solid furniture!I have also heard that small stores selling this less expensive furniture, gave away coupons for Boraxo soap powder.Don’t know of any way to corroborate that one!

Vintage Printed Tablecloths – Made to Last!

If you are like me, you love vintage linens. That fat, meaty feeling cotton that made those fabulous cotton printed tablecloths, took a lot of wear and tear and kept on keeping on! If you are washing them, though, take a little care. They are bleachable, BUT it is safer to hang them out on the line. If you collect printed tablecloths from the fifties sixties, be careful washing them. They will fade. The vintage cloths were usually 50 by 54 inches; repros are often 60 by 60 inches.

Know What a Sharecropper Is, In Furniture Terms?

We have recently received an old pie safe type cupboard that is called a share cropper or a traveler. This wonderful old cabinet, when the top comes off, the drawer and shelves come out, can be folded down and thrown in the back of a wagon or truck and taken to the next house one would live in to pick crops. I have seen several of these as pie safe and only one share cropper chiffarobe. A little view of how things used to be!
